CHEMICAL PEELS IN LONDON

All You Need to Know About Chemical Peels

If you are a fan of “Sex & the City” and I mention chemical peel, what comes to your mind?

Yes, I know you have the vision of Samantha looking like a “scarlet tomato”!

Let me reassure you, no need to be scared, you will not look like Samantha by having a Chemical Peel! Beyond this episode of Sex & the City, a common misconception is that such a treatment will leave you with red, flaking skin.

The truth is chemical peels have come quite a long way in the last 10-15 years. Today, thanks to buffering and other active ingredients, there is minimal downtime. So, rest assured- you will still be able to go about your daily activities.

Why you should have a chemical peel?

It is springtime in London and a great time to exfoliate away all the dead skin that winter helped build up.  Moreover, leaving in a big city means that we are exposed to a high level of pollution that not only damages our lungs but also our skin.

Thankfully, chemical exfoliation is a great way to get rid of dead skin cells. You’ll see an improvement in skin texture and smoothness.

Will I look like Samantha after the peel?

I’ll be honest, for some people a chemical peel will leave you with some redness, but it is unlikely that you will look like Samantha in that famous episode of Sex & the City.  At Nar London, we offer mild to strong peels that will require a limited downtime.

Actually, let’s dispel some myths here. If you get a chemical peel that is appropriate for your needs, I promise you will be totally fine. While your face could peel, it will not be that dramatic, and that also depends on your skin type. Of course, there can be some tingling during the peel but, really, it is not that bad.

Most importantly, let’s remember that the peel will leave your face cleaner, fresher, and glowing. Definitely, a treat worth having in my view.

Why have Chemical peels?

There are so many benefits to a chemical peel:

  • Many of my patients like having a peel as it helps smooth fine lines and wrinkles.
  • Moreover, it can help increase collagen and elastin.
  • A peel will also even out skin tone and exfoliate dead skin.
  • It reduces acne and limits further breakouts.
  • For hyperpigmentation, peels can help diminish brown spots.
  • In addition, peels can help fade away age-related spots or sun damage spots.

Type of Peels

Chemical Peels For Acne:  Indeed, chemical peels can also help with acne. The reason can potentially be related to the rapid exfoliation of the skin. In fact, this technique essentially removes surface acne and can accelerate cell turnover. Furthermore, the treatment might temporarily reduce oil production and calm inflammation. FINALLY, note that we use a peel specifically formulated for acne. Henceforth, you get one of the best acne peel treatments available on the market.

Chemical Peels For Anti-Aging:  yes, the peel can help treat signs of ageing such as fine lines, large pores, uneven texture, and even age or sun damage spots. Many people see the benefits of these peels and like to have them regularly. The targeted formula helps enhance collagen stimulation to increase cell turnover and help firm the skin.

Chemical Peels for Hyperpigmentation: Many people come to Nar London asking if we can help treat their dark patches that are a result of sun exposure, ageing, and even PIH (post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation).  Whatever the reasons for the darker spots, we have peels that can help even with lentigo or melasma.

Chemical Peel: Things to consider

If you are considering getting a peel then it is better to know your needs. Is it to get your skin glowing? Is it for hyperpigmentation or Acne and so on and so forth? Then we will be able to advise you on the best treatment to have.

A chemical peel can simply be a one-off treatment however we recommend having several repeat sessions for optimal results.

Most of the time, we apply a series of peels until we achieve the desired results. Then, peels can be used sporadically alongside your skincare regimen.

If you have a big event to attend, we recommend doing a peel at least five days or one week before so that the skin can renew itself and make you look your best. Alternatively, try the red-carpet combo comprising a Chemical peel + Mesotherapy.

After the peel

After a medical-grade chemical peels, your skin will need more hydration to promote healthy healing and limit excessive peeling, redness, and dryness.  Therefore, we recommend using a hydrating and hypoallergenic moisturizer in the days following the peel.

In addition, you should use a gentle cleanser to wash your skin. We also recommend avoiding harsh toners and cleansers for at least a week after the peel.  Furthermore, try to limit sun exposure and use SPF cream daily.  Finally, try avoiding strenuous exercising for 24 hours after your peel as the skin needs to rest.

How long will the results last?

Generally, the results will vary depending on the peels used, the condition of the skin, and what we are treating.

What are the possible side effects?

At Nar London, we only use safe chemical peels and therefore the side effects tend to be mild or virtually no downtime.

When is it safe to have another chemical peel?

To maintain and enhance results, you can repeat mild and medium chemical peels. Our practitioner can tell you how often you can have an additional treatment. Our strongest peel is PRX-T33, containing TCA (Trichloroacetic acid). This peel acts on the layers of your skin and encourages new cell growth to give you remarkable baby soft skin.
