What You Need to Know: PRP FOR HAIR RESTORATION

HAIR LOSS & PRP

Hair loss is not a life-threatening condition, however there’s no denying it can take a major emotional toll and impact your self-confidence. Millions of people suffer from hair loss, and today, many of those men and women are turning to PRP treatments to help restore their hair and prevent future hair loss.

At NAR LONDON, we offer PRP therapy for both women and men in London, UK. PRP therapy is performed on an outpatient basis, and since PRP comes from your own blood, you don’t have to worry about allergic reactions or adverse reaction. So, if you are wondering how PRP therapy works to treat hair loss? Read on to find out.

PRP: The basics

As you might know, PRP stands for platelet-rich plasma. Both platelets and plasma are part of our own blood. Plasma is the liquid part of your blood, while platelets are components that contain special proteins and other growth factors.

The platelets and other growth factors play a crucial role in tissue regeneration and in your body’s natural healing processes. When PRP is injected into an area of tissue damage, those growth actors go to work to repair or replace damaged cells and trigger other healing responses.  For hair loss, platelets help stimulate dormant hair follicles, energise existing ones and hence promote new hair growth. By injecting the platelets into the scalp, it stimulate dermal papilla cells, which play a major role in hair follicle growth. ting hair follicles.

In summary, PRP stimulates dormant hair follicles and encourages the regeneration of new hair follicles and your existing hair will be stronger and healthier.

PRP for treating hair loss

There are different types of hair loss, depending on the underlying cause. Androgenetic alopecia (AGA) is a major cause of hair loss in men (also called male pattern baldness), and in women, too. This condition causes hair follicles to shrink or “miniaturise.” As a result, hair growth slows, and the follicles begin to produce only very thin hairs. Eventually, they gradually stop producing any hair at all.

As AGA is caused by damage to these hair follicles, many scientific studies show PRP can be beneficial in treating this type of hair loss. For instance, this research found that in men and women experiencing AGA, best results occurred with three monthly PRP sessions combined with three to six months of follow-up treatments.

Other studies show it may help treat other type of hair loss such as alopecia areata, caused by an autoimmune condition that attacks the hair follicles. In any case, PRP is proven to be helpful in treating hair thinning and hair loss conditions for both women and men.

PRP: The process

PRP therapy begins with a sample of your blood that we process using special centrifuge that separates the platelets and plasma from other parts of your blood (like red and white blood cells). The resulting PRP contains a higher concentration of platelets- as much as five times the number of platelets normally found in blood.

The process is as follow for PRP hair regrowth treatment:

  1. Firstly, we draw a standard amount of blood from the patient;
  2. We put the PRP tube of blood in a centrifuge and spin it to separate out the red blood cells from the plasma;
  3. The plasma is rich in platelets that contain valuable growth factors;
  4. Then, we draw up the platelets and inject them into the scalp at the level of the hair follicles;
  5. Ultimately, PRP helps stimulate hair follicles and can generate new hair growth. In addition, it can strengthen existing hair follicles.

Once the PRP is created, it is injected directly into the scalp to stimulate hair follicles. The growth factors contained in the PRP works right away, promoting optimal healing responses, regenerating follicles and supporting new hair growth. This said, PRP follows the mormal hair cycle and results should be seen within few months.

Is PRP right for you?

PRP therapy has varying degrees of success, depending on the cause of hair loss and individual patient factors.

Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) is an autologous treatment that can deliver good results when it comes to new hair growth. However, tackling hair loss is difficult and it takes time, consistency, and patience. This said we have seen great results with PRP on a large number of patients both women and men at our clinic on Harley Street.
