Microneedling in London

Microneedling skin rejuvenation

Microneedling is also known as Collagen Induction Treatment (C.I.T.) is a type of treatment using a derma pen to cause tiny tiny punctures into the skin. This method helps with skin rejuvenation, in treating scarring and/or other skin conditions. This is an effective and natural way to amplify collagen and elastin levels.

Moreover, this is a minimally invasive treatment, safe on all skin types, leaving skin rejuvenated and smoother. Indeed,  Microneedling creates micro-injuries to the skin, encouraging natural collagen production. Also known as Collagen Induction Therapy, the mechanical action of the pen allows the needles to puncture the skin at a 90-degree angle and create controlled injury at a specific depth.

In response, a natural healing process begins by producing collagen and elastin essential for skin rejuvenation. Additionally, Microneedling works over time to boost skin tone, clarity, firmness, and elasticity

Reasons for Microneedling

Today, Microneedling also known as Collagen Inducing Treatment (CIT) is a very popular cosmetic treatment. The procedure involves making small pinpricks into the skin using microscopic needles. As a result, your skin produces more collagen and elastin, two critical dimensions for skin rejuvenation.

Indeed, those tiny punctures cause keratinocytes and fibroblasts to produce numerous growth factors to induce collagen and elastin production.  As a consequence, C.I.T. generates new skin cells to repair themselves. Furthermore, blood supply also increases and improves pigmentation. Over the following days and weeks, your skin becomes thicker, plumper, and more youthful-looking.

Principles behind Microneedling

The principle behind Microneedling is to create a controlled injury underneath the skin’s surface. Consequently, it induces the body to respond through the formation of new layers of elastin and collagen. As a result, your skin plumps and thickens in response to these stimuli, ultimately reducing the appearance of fine lines and also scars.

What are the benefits of Microneedling?

Indeed, this treatment is gaining in popularity because it helps reduce Wrinkles, Fine Lines, Sun Spots, Scars, and even Stretch Marks!

In fact, Microneedling is efficient in reducing a wide variety of aging signs. For instance, this technique is used to get rid of wrinkles, fine lines on the face, and scar tissue. As well as sunspots, small imperfections, and many other skin marks.

All in all, Microneedling improves the skin texture and thickness through a natural healing process. For optimal results, we recommend having several sessions of Microneedling.

What can Microneedling help with?

There are manifold conditions that Microneedling treatments can help address including but not limited to:

  • Helps to tighten the skin and restore elasticity;
  • Reduces the appearance of stretch marks;
  • Diminution of acne & chickenpox scarring;
  • Softens fine lines on the face, hands and even décolleté;
  • Thickens the skin to reduce lines and wrinkles appearance;
  • Helps reduce pigmentation spots.

How is the CIT procedure performed?

First,  our practitioner applies a numbing cream to the patient’s skin. Then, the practitioner will either gently roll the roller over the surface of the skin in 4 different directions or use the Meso Pen to work around areas of the face to create tiny holes in the skin’s surface. Meso Pen is very useful in treating delicate areas of the face.

Which parts of the Body can we apply Microneedling?

Although Microneedling is mostly used for the skin on the face, this procedure can be applied to other parts of the body. For instance, you can get rid of aging spots from your hands. And even reduce scar tissue or try to get rid of damaged skin tissue resulting from injuries.

How invasive is microneedling?

Unlike other types of cosmetic procedures, Microneedling causes minimal damage to the skin. The needles are very small and they are used just to cause superficial injury to the surface of the skin. And therefore, making it produce more collagen in an attempt to repair this damage. On top of reducing aging signs, Microneedling also improves blood flow in the area being treated.

How long does Microneedling Procedure take?

In general, the whole procedure takes between 20-45 minutes depending on the area treated.

What Is The Downtime After Microneedling?

Usually, the recovery after CIT treatment depends on the length and density of the needles used. In most cases, the skin will have a pink or red appearance for 24-48 hours or so.  Also, on some rare occasions, mild bruising is possible. Additionally, the skin can also feel warmer and tighter.

This said,  these reactions are normal and will usually fade after a relatively short period of time. However, patients with a more sensitive skin type can take a bit longer to fully recover.

Does Microneedling Hurt?

We can apply a numbing cream on the skin before the treatment in order to render the procedure significantly less painful. Moreover, we can also use the U225 mesogun that makes the procedure relatively painless.

Does Microneedling have Side Effects?

Not really, Microneedling has little to no side effects. It might be that the area treated gets “redness” but this is normal and will pass on its own. Other people experience mild skin irritation but that is also normal and part of the healing process.

When will I see the results of Microneedling?

Like any treatment, it varies from person to person. Generally, It can take between 6- 8 weeks before visible signs of skin regeneration are visible.  Please note that a gradual improvement will continue to evolve over the ensuing months as collagen production continues.

How many sessions of Microneedling do I need?

Although a single treatment can potentially provide a noticeable result, we recommend a series of 3-4 treatments spaced about 6-8 weeks apart to achieve optimal results. For patients with deep wrinkles, advanced photo-aging, stretch marks or acne scarring,  we usually recommend receiving 6-8 sessions at 6-week intervals.

Hence, it depends on the skin conditions and desired outcome of the patient. You can discuss it with our practitioner.

Aftercare Microneedling

Following Microneedling treatment, we advise to:

  • Wash with tepid water (lukewarm) to cleanse the face for the first 48 hours and dry the area gently without rubbing;
  • Ensure your hands are thoroughly clean before touching any treated area to avoid potential infections;
  • Try to avoid applying make-up products for the first 12 hours following treatment
  • Optionally, you can use a non-medical grade dermaroller 2 times a week in conjunction with specific topical skincare products to maintain results.

Can I combine microneedling with PRP?

Indeed, you probably saw the famous picture of Kim kardashian that went viral. The combination of microneedling and PRP takes advantage of the skin’s ability to heal itself to help you achieve that rejuvenation & glow we all desire.

Firstly, we use a device to create superficial“micro-injuries” to the outermost layer of the skin. Then, we add platelet-rich plasma (PRP) to jump-start the healing process and helps the skin produce new collagen. Gradually you will notice that your skin is smoother and more radiant looking.
